The legendary company, Sumitomo Tires wanted an animated Brand Video that was clean, minimal and emotive. The video was to be focused on the ideologies and philosophies of the brand portraying the Japanese culture and its influence on the company.

Brief

The client shared a visual brief containing some famous Japanese patterns that were to be included in the design of the film. Though abstract in its depiction, the hero of the look was to be pattern usage and a watercolor effect texture throughout the film.

Look Options

First step was to research, the patterns the client had shared and more. After days of studying Japanese patterns and understanding their meaning, a first round of look options was created, in both light and dark tones. From these, the client picked one from each category.

Sketched and Coloured Storyboard

Following the look and colours being locked, the story was sketched out, and then the final graphics were created and coloured.

Animation

Then came the synthesis of all the preceding research and design. The final step was to pick and add complementary music, the voice over and commence animation of the film.
